The Morning Report: “I’ve never seen a successful team that didn’t rebound”
Filed under: The Morning Report; Tagged as: Acie Law, Anthony Randolph, Brandan Wright, Corey Maggette, Don Nelson, Kelenna Azubuike, Mikki Moore, Monta Ellis, Stephen CurryBLOGOSPHERE
Talking Points (Tim Kawakami): First, Monta Ellis accurately assessed the defensive prospects for a potential pairing with Stephen Curry (poor). Now, Brandan Wright is spot on in his observation of what the Warriors need to do: “For us to be a successful team, we’ve got to rebound. I’ve never seen a successful team that didn’t rebound.” Can I get an “Amen”? More importantly, can I get any kind of agreement from the head coach?
Fast Break (Adam Lauridsen): Breaking down the Warriors big men, in minute detail. Lauridsen hopes that “(Mikki) Moore truly is a 12th man and injury insurance.” Based on Don Nelson’s usage of Wright in the past, I wouldn’t bet on it.PRINT MEDIA
Contra Costa Times (Marcus Thompson II): Now that the Media Day kerfuffle has been successfully snuffed out, the Warriors are waxing rhapsodic on the prospects for Ellis’ season. Nelson says that “Monta, after this season, he’ll be a made man.” Hopefully, the NBA will let him slide on that whole murder requirement the Mafia has for the original made men.WEB MEDIA
NBA Fanhouse (Matt Steinmetz): Ellis and Curry, playing nice. “It was fun because offensively we got into the open court and we had (Anthony) Morrow on the other side,” Curry said of playing 2 to Ellis’ 1. (No word on how many points Kelenna Azubuike and Corey Maggette scored at the other end.)AUDIO
KNBR (Ralph Barbieri): Ralph on with Kawakami and Steinmetz.VIDEO
Warriors.com: Practice footage, Anthony Randolph sits down with Tim Roye and Nelson and Acie Law (!) speak.

I think Brandon Wright was simply echoing what Don Nelson and the coaching staff have been in his ear about for the last two years. Now that he’s been beaten out by a 20 yr. old, maybe he’s finally gotten the wax out of his ears.

I am so glad you are back blogging. I hope this year you will add your critical analysis–and i mean that in the sense of astute analysis–to your blogs. I always felt you and Adam were the two clearest thinkers when it came to the Dubs. Some time last season you just burned out and stopped sharing your insights, then completley disappeared. Hope this season is differen t in so many different ways.
Having said that, the one thing we know for sure, at least those of us without blinders or wax in our ears, is that whatever comes from Nelson’s lips means absolutely nothing with what will actually happen at the opening bell. In fact he overly enjoys using his comments as sheer mis-direction in some pretty sick way imho.
It is an utterly bad joke to even discuss defense or rebounding. If these are two key ingredients to a winning franchise, they would have been instilled and implemented years ago. Nelson is enthralled with small ball and misdirection offense, not fundamental basketball. At the beginning of each training camp the last three years Nelson has made meaningless proclamations about defense, rebounding, and so on and literally nothing has been implemented. In fact, when the franchise gave away a decent small forward (who had to play PF) for another no defense volume scorer, well that pretty much said everything we needed to know about Nelson’s priorities.
Don’t get me wrong; I would love to see a new philiosphy and a head coach who actually has learned from the last few years of getting our asses kicked by bigger, stronger, and more defensive minded teams. But I am not holding my breath just yet.
Thanks for being back online Geoff.
