    Game 69, live: 76ers (34-32) at Warriors (24-44)

    Filed under: Commentary;

    FOURTH QUARTER:

** Anthony Morrow is making Marco Belinelli seem awfully expendable right about now.

** It’s amazing how Corey Maggette can look so good and then so bad, all in the space of the same game.

** I don’t think there’s much of a market, but if the Warriors could use Belinelli to motivate someone to take Crawford’s $20M in exchange for an expiring deal this summer, that would probably qualify as a win at this point.

** Credit again where it’s due: The 76ers want this game, badly, and the Warriors just aren’t letting them have it.

** Eddie: I don’t think it’s necessarily just a go-small-and-lose-the-lead-in-the-fourth thing. The offense just keeps collapsing in the fourth, and I can’t put my finger on why that keeps happening then.

** beau: If you read this blog, you know that I’m almost always in favor of pulling Maggette.

** Jackson with the potentially game-sealing steal, and then Monta drains the shot clock before pulling up for a 15-foot dagger. This is how the Warriors draw things up in a perfect world.

    THIRD QUARTER:

    ** Somebody’s getting fired in arena operations…

** Kelenna Azubuike’s not shooting it like he did last night, but he’s still having a game: Five assists, no turnovers, and he’s helping to make Iguodala a relative non-factor (2-for-8 floor).

** Philly’s shooting numbers are woeful enough to this point (26-for-70, 37.1 percent), but think about how much worse it is when you remove the 76ers’ 5-for-5 start as they opened a 14-2 lead.

** After Turiaf’s touch pass to Wright for a dunk, that’s 27 assists on 35 buckets for the Warriors tonight, an astonishingly high ratio for this club that speaks to how well they’re carving up Philly’s defense.

    SECOND QUARTER:

** Eddie: The same could be said of ANY true PG, no?

** I’m trying to decide which young forward tandem I like better: Young and Speights vs. Wright and Randolph.

The fact that it’s taking me this long is a bad sign for the W’s.

** I was going to write something nice about Rob Kurz in the wake of that 3-pointer and then he had to go and commit what may have been the dumbest goaltend in NBA history.

** Eddie: That would have to be a salary dump for the 76ers, because nobody in their right mind wants Jamal Crawford over Miller, straight up. And if Philly does look to shed salary, I would think they’d rather let Miller walk than take on Crawford’s $20M.

** Corey Maggette is channeling his inner Mike Dunleavy Jr. :)

** Chan: Anthony Randolph reaggravated the strained groin he originally suffered a couple weeks back. That’s why he came out of the Lakers game and is a DNP here.

** Credit where it’s due: C.J. Watson played quite well in that quarter, especially considering that he’s received only spotty minutes over the last two weeks.

    FIRST QUARTER:

** Yet another run out for an 11-2 Philly lead, and Don Nelson asks for a timeout. The problems with transition defense highlight a bad habit Brandan Wright has. On that last run out, Wright and Thaddeus Young where pretty much even, in terms of distance from the cup, when Andre Miller came up with the loose ball. But Young beat Wright for the basket because Wright took that little hop he does when he starts to run downcourt. If he can stop himself, Wright would do well to eliminate that little hiccup.

** Twelve straight for the Warriors to tie the score; this is not the mark of a good team on Philly’s part.

** In addition to working on his sprinting technique, Wright should spend plenty of time next summer working on that left hook. He needs a go-to move, and that could be it.

** That was a nice break run by Monta. It felt like he was going to crash and burn at 100 mph, but instead he found Wright for the dunk.

** Andre Iguodala, what are you complaining about? When you bite on the pump fake, you’re going to get called for it. Every single time.

** That alley oop to Samuel Dalembert is exactly what I’m talking about with Monta: Lou Williams comes up with the steal 80 feet from the Warriors’ basket. Monta is in front of him the whole way downcourt, but never once tries to stop the ball — or even get close enough to cause any kind of discomfort to Williams, who waits and sets up a guy who had been 1-for-6 to that point. Simply dreadful.

    PREGAME:

** This should be an interesting test for your Warriors: Coming home on the back-to-back against a rested 76ers team that still has a reason to play. A win here would be a nice little statement.

  1. Andre Miller would look good in a Warrior uni.

  2. Agreed. He is a free agent and the Sixers might be willing to sign and trade for Crawford if they knew they were going to lose Miller. Although, I would hope the dubs wouldn’t sign Andre to an equal contract. Maybe thrown in Reggie Evans and possibly give up Marco to sweeten the deal.

  3. Yeah, wishful thinking.

  4. can anyone share why anthony randolph is inactive for this game, and played only 1 minute and change in the LA game? is he hurt?

  5. thank you for the update on randolph. i was so afraid he somehow is in nelson’s doghouse oncemore.

  6. Funny, I’m in El Sobrante and the lights flickered just as the warrior TV broacast lost video and went to radio. Then the video comes back and they’re talking about the lights going out at the arena.

  7. Andre Miller wouldnt look good in a Warriors uniform because we wouldnt give him the ball.He would look just like he did playing with the Clipps . Jack is not giving up his new found freedom for anyone .

  8. The T.V. announcer is just as annoying on T.V. as he is on his own radio show!

  9. It’s like clockwork with this team. Play well with your bigs, go small in the 4th, blow the lead.

  10. SJax completely bogs down this offense!

  11. gotta love smart’s willingness to pull maggette. nelson always seems afraid of offending his veterans, even when they’re not playing well. and ‘buike, to me, is more valuable on the court anyway.

  12. Unless your name is Jackson, Beau

  13. Jackson is a serious problem.

  14. I just noticed that Turiaf has a superior ast/to ratio than Jackson. Tell me again why we run plays through a guy that can’t shoot or hold onto the ball?

The offense looks so much better than it flows through Turiaf and Biedrins and shots are spread out amongst the wing players . . .

. . . than when Jack, Crawford, or Maggette go by themselves.

Azubuike deserves a nod for racking up 5 assists to zero turnovers.

I don’t think Morrow and Belinelli make each other expendable; Belinelli is a far better passer and ball handler at this point. They can play together at SG/SFoff the bench, as well, since Morrow’s shown a willingness to rebound.

Remove two out of Jack, Crawford, or Maggette, move the 3rd to the reserve unit, and we’re golden.

  15. Just do not go to the games and Cohan loses enough money and he sells the team to someone who has NBA experience. So I said it before and I’ll say it again and again and again:
Boycott the Warriors until Chris Cohan sells the team!!!!

  16. Oh and no matter what Maggette has to go
